We've been eagerly following K.atou and her work for the past few years, always trying to bring her to Washington for our DC friends and fans, and up to now, it never worked out. But we are finally happy and proud to bring you K.atou as she makes the first stop of her US tour on July 31 in DC.

K.atou (aka Katerina Mortzou), a native of Greece, will be lugging around a bag of records for a ridiculous number of hours from Athens to arrive in DC for the first stop on her tour and we don't want you to miss this appearance.

Her online mixtapes, as well as her yearly appearance at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival's after-hours parties have become staples of the underground house and techno scene.

During the past few years, K.atou has lived in London, Berlin, of course Athens, and has played at almost every major city in the US and Europe. This event will mark her DC debut.

Joining us will be Measax of the 88 crew for a special opening set.

Be sure to RSVP for reduced entry until 11. http://bit.ly/loft_katou

More on K.atou:
Started collecting electronic music oriented records at the age of 17, djing at the age of 18, when she played as a guest dj at one of the biggest and most upfront clubs in Athens (her home town) Bossa Nostra. Then back to Corfu she continued with frequent parties and a radio show every weekend as well as a series of parties. The sessions lasted a year, till she moved to UK due to a university scholarship. As soon as she got back, got frequent gigs at Cafeina (Athens) and later at Astron bar (Athens-psiri), and monthly afterhour party(Almodobar, Gazi).

In UK it seems she found one of the most inspiring friends and formed a team Les Rythmes Minimales along with Fanny G promoting the minimal sound around Greece. Winter 2005 found K.atou (aka katie_m) with another collaboration along with Zero:One (I<3Aki, Minimal London) & Bonzo creating a team called .:MinimalAthens:. ,(minimalathens.gr) In the meantime she performed in different venues in Athens such asanza,Factory, Wunderbar, Vanilla,Pink party as well as famous Synch festival of contemporary electronic arts on the Red Bull Home Groove stage. In 2006 the NY label Goosehound assigned her as "foreign diplomat". After a trip in US and CAN for music meditating, as she likes to claim, started working on production. First collaboration with Nutown Project found its roof at the respected Berlin based Einmaleins musik label.

She has performed at Animo3 festival Madrid, Barcelona, Lausanne, Cluj, Oreada, New York, Los Angeles, Santa FE, Bogota, Chicago, Detroit, London, Plauen, Berlin, Munich, Bologna, Genoa, Turin, Dunquerque, Moscow and become as well a member of the London Multivitamins nights family.

K.atou changed her base during 2006 from Athens to London and in summer 2007 moved to Berlin.

"You lead people, like Socrates, out of the cave of shadowy minimal and into the sun of negro house" - Rafeeq 2008
